If you have green eyes, choosing a hair color should be fairly easy. Lucky for you, people with green eyes suit a variety of hair colors. Not to mention that you are among the smallest percentage of the population with this eye color. Congratulations!
Choosing a hair color not only depends on your eye color however, you need to also consider your skin tone to make sure your skin, eyes and hair all work together for a naturally beautiful look.
Take Sophie Skelton below. We’ve been binge watching Season 4 of Outlander on Netflix and am completely crushing on her gorgeous deep copper hair color, which would look amazing with green eyes. Copper, Auburn and Red hair colors naturally compliment green eyes. But before you rush off change your hair color, first you need to determine your skin undertone. This will have a huge impact on your overall look.
Skin Tone Names
There are three types of skin undertones. Warm, Cool and Neutral. Before you choose any hair color or make up product, it is important to correctly identify your skin undertone.
Warm Skin Undertones
Warm skin undertones are sometimes referred to as yellow, apricot, golden or peach.
Cool Skin Undertones
Cool skin undertones actually have more red and pink in them. Your undertone may also have a slight bluish appearance.
Neutral Skin Undertones
Neutral Skin Undertones are generally a mix of both warm and cool. Olive skin most often falls into the neutral skin undertone category.
Working Out Your Undertone
Take a look at your veins around your wrist and hands – what color are they? Cooler skin undertones tend to have veins that appear blue or purple. Warmer skin undertones tend to have veins that appear more green or a green-blue combination. For neutral skin undertones your veins may match the color of your skin.
Also consider whether you suit wearing gold or silver jewelry. If you suit gold jewelry better, you may have a warmer undertone, silver jewelry is better suited to cooler undertones.
Best Hair Color for Pale Skin and Green Eyes
This gorgeous rich red color as pictured above works well for pale skin and green eyes. Avoid gold or copper hair colors for pale skin, especially if you have cool skin undertones. Golden and copper hair colors can often accentuate the red or pink in your skin and completely clash with your undertone. You want to choose a hair color that accentuates your eyes. Here’s another example of a cool undertone skin with natural red hair:
Shades of Blonde and Strawberry Blonde are also a wonderful choice for green eyes and pale skin. Again, you need to determine your skin undertone before choosing a shade of blonde as this can drastically impact your overall appearance. We recommend speaking with an experienced colorist before dying your hair blonde as quite often your natural shade of hair color will throw different hues depending on your skin undertone. For example, if you have a cool undertone, you’ll need to choose a cool blonde or ash color. Your hair is more likely to throw red from your undertone and is also likely to require toning after dying.
Best Hair Color for Olive Skin and Green Eyes
Tyra Banks is a great example of stunning green eyes and olive skin. But take a look at the first photo above – her hair, skin and eyes are all a little too similar and nothing really ‘pops’ in this image. In this instance, we’d have to say the choice of bright pink/red hair for her olive complexion and green eyes was not a good one.
In comparison, the middle photograph with a more ashy chocolate tone is the best choice both for her skin tone and green eyes. The darker color works as well, as pictured in the 3rd image above. Personally we’re loving the natural beauty of the middle image.
Top Tip for Olive Skin: Choose a hair color that is a little darker than your skin tone. Highlight with burgundy or plum foils to make your green eyes pop.
Fiery Red Hair and Green Eyes
What can we say, firery red hair and green eyes is a winner. Enough said.
This girl has naturally darker hair and colored it with a brighter red. Whilst her eyes pop, we would have chosen a more richer deeper color for her cool skin undertone. The red in her hair is bringing out the red in her skin a little too much.
Strawberry Blonde with Green Eyes
If you have a warm skin undertone strawberry blonde will work well with your green eyes, as pictured above. If you have cool skin undertones, the strawberry color is likely to bring out more of the red in your skin. We’d choose a more ashy color for cool skin undertones and green eyes.
Hair Colors to Avoid with Green Eyes
Yellow. Yellow hair and green eyes is not a good combination. Lean more towards strawberry, copper and auburn tones instead.
